DESCRIPTION:Memorial Day Mass Monday\, May 27\, 10:30 am St. Patrick Cemetery\, S 204th St & Orillia Rd S\, Kent (just off I-5\, 1 mile east of Sea-Tac Airport). Please join us at the Seattle area’s small Irish Pioneer Cemetery (see https://mynorthwest.com/575529/st-patrick-cemetery-kent/) to honor those who have fallen in service to our nation. We will also remember all who are buried at St. Patrick\, many of whom are Irish Famine emigrants. Following Mass\, the US flag will be raised from half-staff to full mast by an Honor Guard as the National Anthem is played. Then a wreath will be laid at the grave of a veteran and the day’s ceremonies will conclude with the solemn playing of taps. A limited number of lawn chairs will be provided – extra chairs welcomed! Noteworthy recent contributions include hits like The Wrong Missy\, Tall Girl\, and Blockers. \nBeyond his cinematic achievements\, Messina has composed and premiered over 24 symphonies at Benaroya Hall\, raising an impressive $2\,000\,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital since the age of 23. Messina\, whose Irish roots trace back to Co. Mayo\, Co. Wexford\, Co. Clare\, and Co. Fermanagh\, has been inspired to explore his heritage through music. His composition\, “The Voice of Finnegan Farrell\,” performed at Benaroya Hall and narrated by Rev. Barry Keating\, reflects this deep connection.

DESCRIPTION:Soda Bread Cooking Class run by Irish Heritage Club\, board member Fionna Shriane. Registration required as places are limited due to oven space. Class 1\, limited to 8 persons will start at 12pm and Class 2\, limited to 8 persons will start at 1pm. Fionna will teach you how to bake traditional Irish recipes\, passed down through the generations and also share some stories as you bake. The ticket cost of $15 includes the cost of the class\, the ingredients used and you get to take home the soda bread baked. SUMMARY:Set Dancing Workshop with Joe McGorrin
DESCRIPTION:Set Dancing is a form of social dancing which has been popular in Ireland for over 150 years. Sets are danced by four couples in a square\, and usually consist of three to six Figures with a short pause between each. They are derived from French Quadrilles which were brought to Ireland in the nineteenth century. Irish dancers adapted the figures to their own music and steps to form dances with great drive and enjoyment. Set Dancing is the most popular way of dancing in Ireland and has passionate supporters worldwide.

DESCRIPTION:The Irish Heritage Club is now accepting entries for the Children’s Art Competition for the Irish Festival Seattle at the Seattle Center. \nPlease submit a good quality image or scan of your artwork. \nWinning artworks will be displayed during the Irish Festival alongside the Irish art exhibition\, March 15th\,16th\, and 17th. Winners must be available to pick up their prize at the Seattle Center during the weekend of the Festival. All artworks must be original two dimensional artworks no larger than 8 ½ x 11in with a theme of ‘Ireland’. \nInclude a brief description of your artwork and or process (200 words max). \nEligible Ages: 6-15. \nDeadline for Submission February 5th\, winners will be notified February 12th 2024.  Submit to artcontest@irishclub.org
