SUMMARY:Rebel Wife Screening in Bainbridge
DESCRIPTION:An exclusive screening of ” Rebel Wife” sponsored by Celtic Crossroads a Bainbridge Island retailer and The Irish Heritage Club. \nJoin us for an Irish Evening on Thursday\, August 14th at 6:00 pm at the historic Lynwood Theater featuring the Irish documentary\, “Rebel Wife\,” and meet the filmmaker\, Williams Cole\, great-grandson of “Rebel Wife” Mary Jane O’Donovan Rossa and her husband\, the famous Fenian rebel\, Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa. \nYou’ll enjoy traditional Irish music\, fun trivia\, and your $15 ticket purchase will enter you in a drawing for a $150 gift certificate at Celtic Crossroads\, a Bainbridge shop with beautiful Irish clothing\, fine jewelry\, artwork\, and fun Irish gifts. \nThe film relates the untold story of poet\, organizer\, and revolutionary Mary Jane O’Donovan Rossa\, a woman whose courage\, planning\, and determination helped free Ireland. Williams Cole\, great-grandson of Mary Jane and Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa\, made the film as a companion to his “Rebel Rossa\,” a 2016\, film about the centenary of Rossa’s death and famous 1915 funeral in Glasnevin Cemetery\, which played a key role in instigating the Easter Rising of 1916. \nGetting to and from Bainbridge Island and the Lynwood Theater. \n-Walk on or Drive on (think “carpool!) the Seattle ferry (check the schedule and drive-on wait times here) for a 35-minute crossing.\n-From the south-end\, you can “drive around\,” (an hour 15 mins+- from Seatac) across the Tacoma Narrows bridge.\n-North-end folks can drive on the 20 minute Edmonds ferry (check the schedule and drive-on wait times here) and drive about 20 minutes to downtown Bainbridge.\n-When you arrive\, you can catch the #97 Crystal Springs bus at the ferry terminal – have $2.00 exact change handy – which will take you to Lynwood Center.\n-Plan to catch the Seattle ferry by no later than the 4:45 pm crossing\, and the Edmonds ferry by no later than 3:55 pm to make it to Lynwood theater.\n-Private transportation for all “walk-on passengers” back to the Bainbridge ferry from the Lynwood theater at 8:15 pm. \nMake a day of it and come visit Bainbridge as early as you like. It will give you a chance to enjoy Winslow Way shops and restaurants. Check out Visit Bainbridge Info for things to drive to and see before the event. \nBe sure to stop in and say hi to Debbie Sonandre\, our Irish Evening event sponsor\, at her “all-things-Irish” shop\, Celtic Crossroads\, at 380 Winslow Way.

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Mass
DESCRIPTION:Annual Memorial Day Mass to be held in St Patrick’s Cemetery on May 26th at 10.30 am with Fr Martin Bourke acting as the celebrant this year. The Mass\, will be an outdoor mass and will happen no matter the weather. A small number of seats are provided but please feel free to bring a folding chair to ensure you have a place to sit. Come prepared for the weather. St. Patrick Cemetery was founded by Irish immigrants in 1880 and undoubtedly many Irish Famine immigrants are buried there. The cemetery possibly may be the location that has the most genuine Irish ties in the Seattle area! KIRO’s My Northwest once called the cemetery “A Little patch of Ireland on the edge of the Kent Valley” – see https://mynorthwest.com/local/st-patrick-cemetery-kent/575529.
